| Breaking News | | Saturday, July 30th, 2022: Newton Pitches Silicon Valley to Shutout Win The Ocean City Longhorns struggled at the plate today against Chips hurler James Newton, who shackled them on 4 hits while hurling a complete game 1-0 shutout.
"What can you say? We didn't hit well," said the Longhorns skipper in his postgame comments.
"Hopefully we shake this off and bounce back tomorrow."
Newton finished the game with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks in an excellent mound performance.
"He pitched real well," his manager said. "James made pitches when he had to. He hit his spots and did a great job of mixing in his changeup and using his fastball effectively."
This year Newton has gone 5-2 with an ERA of 3.13 and has 30 strikeouts in 69 innings. | | Saturday, July 23rd, 2022: Great Day for Flores -- 5 Hits Norberto Flores exploded for a barrage of base hits today at Plano Grounds. The Hong Kong second baseman had a field day against the Ocean City Longhorns, finishing with a 5-5 day and a spot in the record book.
"It's a shame that we lost the game. It's really hard to enjoy what I did today," he said, lamenting the 11-10 loss. "You would think 5 hits would do it."
Asked about his great day, he replied, "My hitting philosophy is pretty simple. I focus just to see the ball and try to get a good pitch."
Well, Flores must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too. It was one of his best days ever with the bat.
N. Flores singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off M. Lowe in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off G. Ontiveros in the 9th.
Flores is hitting .317 so far this season with 28 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He has 52 hits including 4 home runs, 11 walks and .365 OBP. | | Saturday, July 16th, 2022: Longhorns Shut out by Taylor "That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," the Tornadoes manager told reporters after today's game.
The Longhorns ran into a buzzsaw as Nate Taylor cut them down to size 5-0 with a 3-hit shutout.
His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one."
In the complete game whitewash the Kansas hurler doled out 2 walks and registered 4 strikeouts.
In the postgame press conference his catcher said, "Nate goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. You can call any pitch and you know where he's going to be."
Taylor also got some praise from the Ocean City manager.
"He really kept us in check today. Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away... we took some pathetic swings."
So far this season Taylor has a record of 13-6 with 139 strikeouts and 52 walks in 158.1 innings and a 3.92 ERA. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Ben Spivey | damaged tricep muscle | 4 weeks | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 16-12, .571 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 5.0 GB | | Record at home | 12-6, .667 PCT | | Record on the road | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 1-3, .250 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 6-5, .545 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 9-3, .750 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 7-9, .438 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 16-12, .571 PCT |
