| Breaking News |  | Saturday, April 15th, 2023: 5-6 Day for Howell
During a player's career, there are days that stand out, and this day was definitely special! Matt Howell went 5 for 6 against the Duluth Dreadnoughts at Reno Fields and the Thudpuckers picked up a 14-3 victory.
He exclaimed, "What a day! We win and I get 5 hits! Couldn't be better!" The delighted shortstop was really enjoying the happiness of the moment in the press room.
"He was patient up there today," the Oglethorpe skipper told the press after the game. "I like the way he waited for his pitch and wasn't overly agressive. Howell has a tendency to go after some bad balls sometimes."
M. Howell singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and flied out in the 8th.
So far this year Howell has hit .408 with 1 home run, 9 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

| Monday, August 8th, 2022: Howell Week's Best Player
Oglethorpe fans have something to crow about today as Oglethorpe shortstop Matt Howell nabbed the Sub League 2 Player of the Week Award for his performance over the last seven days.
"I know there are times when it's hard to lay off pitches. Everyone goes through stretches when he's too eager to put the ball in play. You know, though, I feel like this past week I was able to get in the right frame of mind and just let things come naturally," said Howell.
He posted a .467 average (14-30) this past week with no home runs, 7 RBIs, and 5 runs scored.
Howell is currently batting .371 with 2 home runs and 49 RBIs.

 | Wednesday, July 27th, 2022: Troy No Match for Silva
The Troy Haymakers met their match today in Oglethorpe hurler Luis Silva. He kept them guessing the whole game and spun a 6-hit shutout.
"He just worked us over," the Troy skipper said. "He probably didn't even take a shower after the game. I don't think he even worked up a sweat. They could probably pitch him again tomorrow."
In the 5-0 victory Silva whiffed 3 and gave up no walks.
This year Silva has compiled a 14-5 record with a 3.01 ERA in 22 starts.
