| Breaking News | | Saturday, April 22nd, 2023: Hit Parade: Miranda Gets Cycle "How sweet it is, when the good part of the bat makes contact with the baseball." That's how José Miranda, the New York shortstop, described what happened in today's 9-0 victory over the Long Island Accents -- hitting for the cycle. In baseball, a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. Collecting the hits in that exact order is known as a "natural cycle," something that almost never occurs.
"I heard that sound every time I hit the ball -- it really was a special game for me." It was a game good enough for him to make a little history. He bombed Long Island pitching for 4 hits in 5 at-bats and his name will now go into the record book. Miranda also racked up 3 runs batted in and 3 runs scored in the game.
J. Miranda hit an RBI triple in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off A. Woodmansee in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, doubled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
This year Miranda is batting .284 with 1 home run. | | Sunday, April 16th, 2023: Bad News for New York, Schuman Injured The New York Empire will lose the services of starting pitcher John Schuman after he sustained a tender shoulder while throwing a pitch in today's game against the Bloomington Beavers. "I'll get through it," Schuman said. "The key now is to stay positive." His trainer said he is expected to be sidelined for the next 2 weeks.
| | Friday, April 7th, 2023: Year Over for Empire Harris The season is ending on a bad note for Britt Harris, second baseman for the New York Empire. It was announced today that he will miss the rest of the season because of injury. Harris was hurt against the New Jersey Nighthawks while colliding with a player at a base. He suffered a torn back muscle and will be out for at least 7-8 months.
This year Harris has hit no home runs and posted a .313 batting average. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | 2B Britt Harris | ruptured labrum muscle | 7 months | 46 day(s) left (60-day DL) | | P Robert Desimone | tender tricep tendon | 6 months | 17 day(s) left (60-day DL) | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 9-17, .346 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 5.0 GB | | Record at home | 5-7, .417 PCT | | Record on the road | 4-10, .286 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-0, 1.000 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 2-2, .500 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 0-6, .000 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 9-11, .450 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 9-17, .346 PCT |
