| Breaking News |  | Monday, April 24th, 2023: SL2 Awards Player of the Week 22-year-old António Guerrero sent shock waves through OTBA Double A last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the Sub League 2 Player of the Week Award.
A newcomer to the league, Guerrero made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .667 average, 10 hits in 15 at-bats, 2 home runs and 6 runs batted in.
Where the Keokuk Westerns catcher goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Guerrero certainly made his mark last week.
To date Guerrero has chalked up a .339 average with 2 home runs, driven in 7 runs and scored 5 times. |  | Tuesday, April 18th, 2023: Great Stroke: Guerrero Gets 5 Hits António Guerrero was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over the park, collecting 5 hits and leading the Westerns to a 9-5 victory over the Ozark Puzzle Pieces.
After the first three hits, all eyes in the ballpark were drawn to him each time he stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.
In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the Keokuk catcher said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for a high average is to relax, concentrate and hit the ball where they ain't."
Nobody was at home today as Guerrero finished the day with 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a line in the record book.
A. Guerrero hit a solo-shot off J. Unknown in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off J. Unknown in the 8th.
In the current season, Guerrero has put up a .320 batting average with 16 hits, 2 home runs, 6 runs batted in and scored 5 runs. |  | Saturday, July 23rd, 2022: William Booth Out for Season The Keokuk Westerns were dealt a serious blow when the team learned that William Booth was likely to be out for 12-13 months after he injured himself running the bases in today's game against the Ozark Puzzle Pieces. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be a fractured ankle. Upon learning of their diagnosis, the Keokuk manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries -- they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until William is back in action."
This season Booth is swinging the bat at a .292 pace. He has hit 6 home runs and scored 39 times, while driving in 46.
