Breaking News Saturday, April 29th, 2023: Smithey Tosses Shutout Against Spice Island At Ballpark of Highland today Spice Island dropped a 5-0 decision to Larry Smithey and the Spartanburg Segregationists. The Smugglers offered little resistance to Smithey, who stopped them on 4 hits, fanned 7 and walked 2. Currently Smithey has a record of 1-3 with 24 strikeouts and 10 walks in 32 innings and a 3.38 ERA. Wednesday, April 12th, 2023: Hit Parade: Yoshida Pops 5 Hits It doesn't happen very often, but it happened for Sadaharu Yoshida -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage at Black Flies Park and paced the Black Flies to a 13-2 win over the Spice Island Smugglers. After his dynamite batting performance the Cabuyao center fielder told the press, "I just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid some great dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book. S. Yoshida singled in the 1st, walked in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 9th. So far this year Yoshida has no home runs and a .460 batting average. Saturday, July 30th, 2022: Booth Strong-Arms West Palm Melvin Booth went the distance at Thunderclouds Ballpark today. The Spice Island hurler yielded 3 hits, walked 2 and had 7 strikeouts in the Smugglers 5-0 triumph over the West Palm Hairy Palms. In 2022 Booth has compiled a 5-15 record with a 5.03 ERA.
